Welcome to the web site of The Rainbow on the Lake, restaurant and public house near Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Situated in the beautiful Wylye Valley, on the South side of Salisbury Plain, the Rainbow on the Lake offers excellent real ales, an impressive wine list and exceptional home cooked food. The Rainbow is believed to have been built around 1680 and was most probably a convenient stopping point for the stage coach as it is situated on the A36, the old coach road between Salisbury and Bath.

The pub is slightly elevated and affords panoramic views across Wylye Valley and Langford lakes. In summer, our terrace is a perfect place to come and sit and admire the scenery whilst sampling our extensive menu or just having a quiet drink.

The Rainbow has two bars, one large olde worlde dining room and bar which can seat 80 people. This is perfect for large functions, weddings or parties, as there is a dance area if required. The second bar is smaller and could be described as a 'snug bar' with a warm and cosy atmosphere, on from there is a small games room with pool and darts.

Our menus vary from a la carte to tasty home made snacks. Wherever possible local vegetables and meats are used. All food is prepared by the Rainbows own chef and the menu changes seasonally.

Places of interest
The World Heritage site Stonhenge is only a 10 minute drive. Salisbury City is excellent for shopping and ideal for the historian, with the highest spire in the UK - 404ft. It also has the oldest working clock, circa 13 th Century. Also nearby are Wilton House, Wilton carpets, Longleat House and the Safari Park. There are delightful gardens in Stourhead NT and the beautiful Roman City of Bath is nearby.

For those keen on exploring the countryside, very near the Rainbow are three lakes which are in the stewardship of The Wiltshire Life Trust. Finally the Great Bustard has returned to Salisbury Plains courtesy of the Russian Republic. In September 2004, a flock of young birds were released on to the Plain as the Victorians hunted the original birds to extinction. The Great Bustard can weigh up to 52lbs; stand some 30 inches tall and can run in short bursts up to 30mph. They are the heaviest birds in the world that are capable of flight.
